In one or two sentences introduce yourself…….
My name is Bex Gin. I’m obsessed with music videos and the environment.

I thought I’d need more than two sentences to sum myself up, but apparently not.

What’s your biggest project going on now?
I’m directing and editing a music video for David Dallas (Con Psy from Frontline). We’re making a clip about boy racers. Our shoot was delayed for 2 hours because the talent were pulled over by the police. We didn’t realise, so the 1st AD [first assistant director] rang the boys in the middle of it and they went, “Uh, we can’t talk right now . . . ”

What do you spend your days doing?
Excellent question, little cricket. I wish I knew where my time went. I mostly hang out at Fish ‘N’ Clips editing videos or eating barbequed chicken even though I’m trying to be vegetarian. I work at Khuja Lounge on Friday nights – come up and I’ll make you a mojito. It’s the only thing I know how to.

Where’s your favourite place in NZ?
Home. South Epsom. My car window gets smashed about once a month but I’ve lived there all my life. If we’re going to burn some carbon credits anyway though we have to roadie up north to Karikari Peninsula. One of the most beautiful places on earth.

What’s your favourite tipple?
I don’t drink, but I love making mojitos for other people at Khuja. Something about bashing all the lime and mint and ice together; it’s quite therapeutic.

Who inspired/or continues to inspire you most in your life?
On a everyday basis it would be my mom, of course. Ridiculously amazing woman. She has crazy energy and makes me vego meals even though we both know I’ll end up eating the duck.

In terms of work, Mark Romanek, Sophie Muller and Michel Gondry are my music video heroes. Everything they make always looks pimp.

What’s the latest thing downloaded to your Ipod?
PETA’s anti-animal cruelty video ‘Meet Your Meat’. I’m gonna try watch it before each meal-time and get back on the vego wagon.

Rebecca Gin Continued

What’s your biggest weakness?
Meat. Beautiful, succulent meat.

If you weren’t doing what you are doing now you’d…
Be a crime-fighting ninja.

What are you reading?
The road map – I’m always lost.
I have a habit of latching onto a book I love and reading it over and over again. Consequently I still read The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton which I first read when I was 12 years old. All of the mafia books by Mario Puzo fall into the same category. I staunchly maintain The Godfather book is better than the film.

What is your idea of perfect happiness?
Being in a moment you wouldn’t change if given the chance.

What is your greatest fear?
Not having enough of those moments.

What is your greatest extravagance?
Sleeping in when I’m don’t have the time. And petrol. Bane of my existence.

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
My complete lack of discipline.

Finish these sentences:
It really irritates me that

Complacency is so easy to come by

I just love it when….
I’m inspired and everything is panning out as it should and you just want to make life into a person and give it a high five.
