Zara Mirkin
In one or two sentences introduce yourself...
My name is Zara Mirkin, I am the Fashion Editor of NO Magazine and a freelance stylist for cool labels like Max!
What’s your biggest project going on now?
Styling for the new Max instore campaign and lookbook coming out in June. Plus, I know it’s 3 months away but I have already started working on New Zealand Fashion Week. At this stage I am doing 2 shows but I think it could be up to 4. I am working with designers like Stolen Girlfriends Club from the beginning of the design process to come up with ideas for garments, accessories and shoes because you need so much time to make them all. I am also working towards the new issue of NO, so shooting lots of fashion editorials.
What do you spend your days doing?
Most days I drive around sourcing clothes for shoots, other days I am on location shooting, and sometimes if I’m a bit quiet I get to hang out in my office and try to reply to hundreds of emails.
Where’s your favourite place in NZ?
My favourite city is Dunedin which I just visited for the first time for ID Fashion Week, I stayed at the Larnach Castle which is just breathtaking and I also love Raglan for summer holiday road trips!
What’s your favourite tipple?
I don’t really drink but once in a while I will have a whiskey and coke!
Who inspired/or continues to inspire you most in your life?
My friends and family. I have so many friends all around the world doing the most amazing things, real creative’s and all living their dream… My sister just moved to New York to go and get her dream job, she is really inspiring to me.
What’s the latest thing downloaded to your iPod?
I just downloaded a whole discography of one of my favourite bands, Dead Moon. They are a married couple from Portland, Oregan that have been playing music together almost their whole lives.
What’s your biggest weakness?
I am a procrastinator and I spend money way too fast.
If you weren’t doing what you are doing now…
I’d be living in Venice Beach, playing bass guitar in an all girl rock band and travelling the world.
What are you reading?
Right now I am only reading magazines as I have a huge pile to get through, ID, Self Service, Russh and a Purple mag.
What is your idea of perfect happiness?
Being in love, nothing else matters when you’re in love I reckon.
What is your greatest fear?
People close to me dying.
What is your greatest extravagance?
My wardrobe, I am a hoarder.
If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
I would really like to be more organised and tidier… also a little less shy!
